Diplomatic Relation
The official diplomatic relations between Sudan and Kuwait began in 1961 when Kuwait gained its independence, then full diplomatic representation between the two countries was exchanged, then the steps for the development of relations accelerated after Kuwait sought the help of Sudanese competencies and labor in a number of vital sectors. On the economic level, the State of Kuwait tended to invest some of its surplus financial resources in development projects in Sudan. It was one of the largest shareholders in the Kenana Sugar Project and the Sudanese Kuwaiti Hotels Company, in addition to its other development activities in the construction and real estate sector, in the field of textiles, roads, transportation, electricity, etc. Moreover, the Kuwait Fund for Development emerged as a major contributor to the financing of many development projects witnessed by Sudan, and Sudan has been one of the largest beneficiaries of the services provided by the Arab Planning Institute, which is hosted by the State of Kuwait, and it is one of the leading Arab development institutions in the field of human capacity building, technical, institutional and advisory support. There are also many Kuwaiti investments in Sudan in various vital development sectors, and the volume of trade exchange has doubled, as the State of Kuwait imports many Sudanese agricultural products, the most important of which are fodder, sesame and meat, in addition to other products of Sudanese origin that are imported through other countries such as fruits, While Sudan imports petroleum materials, some machinery, equipment and other products from Kuwait. Kuwait's regular participation in the sessions of the Khartoum International Fair through the various Kuwaiti companies operating in the field of foodstuffs, chemicals, sanitary ware, electrical appliances and other fields - is an important indication of the possibility of activating trade between the two countries, as the two parties always strive for more cooperation and remove obstacles that impede trade exchange between them. The tourism sector in Sudan has witnessed an increasing demand from Kuwaitis. The cultural relations between the two countries are among the oldest historical relations, and there are many cultural events that have been held, such as the State of Kuwait’s production of a number of television programs and cinematic films, on top of which is the movie “Al-Zein’s Wedding” and the “Sarra Desert” program, as well as the painting of Sudan in the Kuwaiti operetta Al-Wafa’ processions, and for the sake of deepening those relations. There is a Sudanese cultural week in the State of Kuwait under the slogan "Loyalty to the People of Giving" in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters in the State of Kuwait. Additionally, the State of Kuwait and Sudan enjoy distinguished relations in the field of security and defense, continuous and fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior, and mutual training programs between the two countries. In 2016, the Sudanese Military College witnessed the graduation of a number of Kuwaiti military students. The two countries worked to tighten coordination between them in Arab, regional and international forums, whether with regard to economic and financial policies or assuming leadership positions in various economic organizations. The agreement to establish the Joint Ministerial Committee was signed in April 2004, which included the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding in all sectors. Another agreement of political consultation was also signed between the ministries of affairs in 2000.
